The Victory of Light Over Dark
On Wednesday 5th May the Women’s Blues faced Oxford in their second BUCS match of the season. Fitzwilliam pitches saw Cambridge secure victory in the historic clash. Electing to bat first, opener Jones racked up a quick 40 making her the highest scorer of the day. This was followed by Maxwell and Gibson putting together a partnership before Reeves and Atherton steadied the ship in the lower order. At 7 and 8, they showed Oxford what a team performance is all about, securing crucial runs quickly. Ellahi and Parker finished off the 30 over innings by contributing a solid 19 runs between them, leaving Cambridge at 150 all out.
The light blues set to defend their home turf with an all-round impressive bowling performance. Tasker’s skill with the ball put Cambridge in a comfortable position, taking 1-12 off 5, including the vital wicket of the Oxford opening bat. Jones’ catching hands were at the ready, taking two off Reeves and Parker’s bowling, as was her bowling arm, allowing Oxford just 11 runs from her 6 over spell. Both Reeves and Parker celebrated 3 essential wickets each. Maxwell then concluded the innings with 3-1 off 0.4 which sent Oxford home for 98 all out by the 24th over. The Blues thus continued their winning streak in style.
