Match Report
On 15 April 2021, Cambridge University CC headed up to Durham for their second BUCS game of the season, having suffered a tough loss away at Loughborough to start.
Durham won the toss and elected to field.
Cambridge got off to a slow start with the bat, perhaps not feeling too fresh after the 4-hour coach journey earlier in the morning, finishing up 42/2 off the first 10 overs. From this point, the innings struggled to get going, with the Cambridge batsman restrained by some accurate pace bowling. Cambridge limped to 162 all out off 46.4 overs. The highlight was a determined 38* from Jovan Dhariwal, the only batsman to pass 20 for Cambridge.
162 was always going to be a challenging total to defend, and some destructive batting from the Durham openers put them in a commanding position at the end of the powerplay, where they sat at 65/1. The Cambridge bowlers battled hard, with Mudara Senanayake and James Vitali picking up one wicket each. But a confident batting performance meant Durham had reached their target of 163 within just 25.2 overs. It was a resounding defeat for Cambridge and sent a tough message to the team that improvement was required in order to compete at this standard.
