Women’s Blues

Women's Blues

Cambridge University Cricket Club has a rich history dating back to 1820, with records of a Women’s set-up dating back to 1940s.  Fenner’s Cricket Ground has been the home of CUCC since 1848.

Nowadays, CUCC is a club of over 100 students.  The Women’s set up is normally made up of around 20 players every year. We cater for complete beginners and experienced cricketers alike.  For the 2020/21 academic year, we will be officially naming our development set-up the ‘Wayfarers’ as part of making the pathway from beginner to Blues player transparent.

We train at least twice a week during Michaelmas and Lent Terms at Fenner’s Indoor School, as well as weekly S&C sessions at the University Sports Centre.  We also hold an intensive pre-season training camp at the end of Easter.  During the summer, we train outdoors at least twice a week.

Summer fixtures include weekly BUCS games, against teams such as Loughborough and Nottingham, in the Midlands 1A League.  We also play fixtures against the MCC, Army, RAF and Navy.  We have two Varsity Matches: the Twenty 20 Varsity, which alternates between Cambridge and Oxford every year, and the prestigious One-Day University Match, which we try to get at a neutral venue.  In previous years, this has been at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Women’s cricket is a Full and Half Blue sport with two prestigious Varsity matches: the Twenty20 fixture and the One-day University Match.  We welcome both new and experienced players alike.  Training consists of twice-weekly squad training sessions plus some lunchtime skill sessions at Fenner’s Indoor Cricket School, and once-weekly Strength and Conditioning at the Sports Centre.  In addition to the Varsity matches, the Summer season is filled with several other historic fixtures and our Midlands 1A BUCS league games.
