Ansari picked for England Test side

Everyone at CUCC wishes Zafar Ansari well this morning as he joins an illustrious list of former CUCC players to have played Test Match cricket for their country.

Ansari will make his Test match debut in the second Test between England and Bangladesh at Dhaka. He replaces Gareth Batty, his county captain at Surrey, in the final XI, with England looking to rotate their squad ahead of a gruelling five Test series against India in November and December. The all-rounder is expected to bat at number eight in the order and to be a threat with his left-arm spin on a dry surface.

Zafar excelled both on and off the field during his time at Cambridge, graduating with a First-Class degree from Trinity Hall. He made his One-Day International debut for England against Ireland in May 2015, and, but for an untimely thumb injury at the end of the 2015 county season, he may well have made his Test debut for England last winter against Pakistan.
